Meribel Retired, In Foal to Street Cry
4/20/2009

Meribel upon retirement

Runnymede Farm’s ultra consistent racemare MERIBEL was retired this spring and has been confirmed in foal to Darley’s top stallion STREET CRY (Ire), sire of champions Street Sense and Zenyatta among his first crops.

Bred in partnership with Arthur B. Hancock, Runnymede’s homebred Meribel raced five seasons, from age two to six, with rarely a significant break. The durable Peaks and Valleys mare out of the Saratoga Six dam Count to Six raced at an incredible 17 different tracks and won four stakes races at Saratoga, Keeneland, and Belmont Park. Her signature win came in the Grade 3 Valley View Stakes over Keeneland’s main track, although her other six career victories were all on the turf. She also placed in seven stakes, four of which were graded.

Meribel wrapped up her stellar race career with a 29-7-3-7 record and $523,070 in earnings.

“We are so happy to have Meribel on Runnymede,” said General Manager Martin O’Dowd. “She has the most lovely temperament, and she is a perfect physical specimen. Her race record speaks for itself.”
