Making only her second career start, Runnymede Farm graduate Laughing Lashes finished a strong second in the Silver Flash Stakes (G3) for juvenile fillies at Leopardstown racecourse in Ireland on July 15.
The gray filly by Mr. Greeley out of Adventure, by Unbridled’s Song, rated kindly on the rail while Gemstone set the early pace. Closing willingly once jockey Fran Berry wheeled her out for a clear run in midstretch, Laughing Lashes missed catching Coolmore’s Together, the pacesetter’s stablemate, by only a length in the seven-furlong event.
Bred by Runnymede in partnership with Robert P. Levy, Laughing Lashes was sold for $100,000 at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale and races for the McElroy Syndicate and trainer Jessica Harrington.
Runnymede and Levy have consigned a stunning half sister to Laughing Lashes by freshman sire First Samurai to this year’s Keeneland September sale.
“She is a good-sized filly, beautifully balanced, correct and gorgeous,” said Runnymede Vice President and General Manager Martin O’Dowd of the First Samurai filly. “I rate her as the best filly we have raised on Runnymede since New York Grade 1 winner Marylebone.”
The dam of Laughing Lashes and the First Samurai filly, Adventure, currently is in foal to The Aga Khan’s brilliant European champion Dalakhani, a Group 1 winner as a juvenile who went on to capture the Prix du Jockey Club (G1) (French Derby) and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1). Runnymede is boarding Adventure at the Irish National Stud.
