It’s a colt! First foal of 2011 born in Ireland

Runnymede’s first foal of the year is a colt delivered by our stakes-winning Pivotal mare Morena Park in Ireland on February 9.

Boarded at the Irish National Stud as part of Runnymede’s international breeding program, Morena Park foaled the healthy foal by War Chant without complication and both are reported to be doing well.

The colt is bred along the same lines as graded stakes winner and Group 1-placed Chattahoochee War, a son of War Chant out of a half sister to Morena Park’s dam, the  Ahoonara mare Peace in the Park. Chattahoochee War set a course record at Keeneland while winning the Transylvania Stakes (G3) and he earned $553,416.

Morena Park, who is from the family of French Group 2 winner Nabeel Dancer and Irish Group 1-placed stakes winner Golden Arrow, won two stakes and placed in two others while racing in Italy and finished second by a nose in the 2002 Rosenna Stakes at Delaware Park. Later that year, Morena Park finished second in an allowance race at Saratoga, and in 2003 she set all the pace in winning an allowance at Delaware. Overall, she won five of 25 starts, placed eight times and earned $210,012.

Breeding plans for Morena Park are pending this season. In addition to her newborn colt, she has a very appealing yearling filly by Exchange Rate who was foaled at Runnymede.
