A very attractive and lively filly by King’s Best, who reigned as the world’s leading sire in 2010 with Derby winners in England and Japan, was delivered recently in France by our promising young mare Lady of Akita.
Foaled at Hubert Honoré's Haras d'Ommeel in Normandy, the filly is the first foal for Lady of Akita, a five-year-old Fantastic Light mare who is a half sister to Runnymede-bred Japanese champion Agnes Digital, an earner of more than $8-million.
As a French-bred, the newborn filly will be eligible for the generous premiums offered by the French Racing and Breeding Committee.
Runnymede has sent two mares to France, with proven Group 1 producer Palace Weekend delivering the first foal for our fledgling French program last year with a filly by top European sire Invincible Spirit.
Both Lady of Akita and Palace Weekend, the dam of Racing Post Trophy (G1) winner Palace Episode, will be bred to King’s Best this year. A winner in England while trained by John Gosden, Lady of Akita is one of the horses featured on our website (click here to see her at Runnymede).
King’s Best, a son of Kingmambo who won the English Two Thousand Guineas (G1), is by Kingmambo and is a half brother to Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) winner Urban Sea, who in turn is the dam of leading global sire Galileo and champion Sea The Stars.
Runners by King’s Best include 2010 Japanese Derby (Tokyo Yushun) (G1) winner Eishin Flash, an earner of $5,587,464, and Epsom Derby (G1) and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Workforce, who amassed $4,930,919.
