Silver Sycamore, a five-year-old daughter of Exchange Rate that we own in partnership with Chris Zinkhan, produced our first foal of the 2014 crop when she delivered a healthy chestnut colt by Galileo’s multiple Group 1-winning son Nathaniel on January 31 at Watership Down Stud in England.
The colt—among the first born in his sire’s initial crop—was described by the attending veterinarian as “bright, active and nursing well,” and Silver Sycamore “has taken to the foal very well.”
Silver Sycamore will be bred back to Giant’s Causeway’s son Footstepsinthesand, an undefeated winner of the Two Thousand Guineas (G1) at Newmarket who stands at Coolmore’s base in Ireland.
Our first foals at our Kentucky farm should be arriving soon, and we have great expectations for the class of 2014. Our homebred multiple graded stakes winner Bizzy Caroline, by Afleet Alex, is set to deliver a foal by Horse of the Year and exciting sire Ghostzapper in early February and her colt or filly could be the first at Runnymede this year.
Also due early is Hunter’s Mark, our mare boarded in Japan who is a half sister to top Japanese sire King Kamehameha. She is carrying a member of the first crop by champion and Dubai World Cup (G1) winner Victoire Pisa.
