$360K Song Parody Tops Juvenile Ranks at Fasig Tipton
Tuesday, July 12, 2022

Closing out the July 11 Fasig-Tipton July Selected Horses of All Ages sale as the highest priced 2-year-old of the session was Song Parody, purchased in partnership by Runnymeade Farm president Romain Malhouitre along with an undisclosed New York owner and a group from Boston for $360,000. Bred in New York by Lambholm, the Practical Joke filly was consigned as Hip 609 from the Taylor Made Sales consignment. The filly was Malhouitre's sole purchase for the sale in a market he called "robust."

"You never know. Today was a strong market. We wanted her for a little bit less... I thought she was quite neat. She’s well put together. It’s a good mix between the sire and Songandaprayer as well," Malhouitre said. "I thought she had a lot of class. Obviously, she was very fast (the) first time out so we’re hoping she can carry the speed." Song Parody coasted to a frontrunning 5 1/2-length victory in her debut June 25 in a maiden special weight at Belmont Park. She clocked the five furlongs on the on the main track in :58.96, earning a 83 Equibase Speed Figure for her performance.

"She fits the box for us. We take a lot of pride in doing a little bit of everything. We have a good program with turf and we were looking for a fast, precocious filly on the dirt and she showed that so far. Hopefully she'll keep on going."

Malhouitre says he will speak with her connections first before making any decisions but that Song Parody is most likely headed back to New York.

"She could be in open company and stay in New York-bred stakes races and stuff like that," he said.

Song Parody is out of the stakes placed Songandaprayer mare Songofthecity who has four winners out of five foals to race. She comes from a family of grade 1 winners including winner of the La Brea Stakes (G1) Hookedonthefeelin, Humana Distaff Handicap (G1) victress Pussycat Doll, as well as sire and grade 1 winner Jimmy Creed.

The filly was a $25,000 yearling at the 2021 Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale for Legion Bloodstock from the Stuart Morris consignment.

Practical Joke is a leading sire on the current second crop sire list by progeny earnings. His top earner is the 3-year-old colt Wit who is a grade 3 winner in the Bay Shore Stakes (G3) and the Sanford Stakes (G3). The son of Into Mischief stood the 2022 season for an advertised fee of $35,000 at Ashford Stud near Versailles, KY.
