Believe You Can, El Fasto In Foal To Airdrie Stud’s Collected
Tuesday, August 20, 2019

Kentucky Oaks winner Believe You Can and her dam El Fasto are both in-foal to Grade 1 winner Collected, per an announcement by Airdrie Stud, which stands the stallion and owns both mares.

The mares are part of Collected's first book at stud, which he stood at the Midway, Ky., farm for an advertised fee of $17,500.

Collected, a 6-year-old son of City Zip, won eight of 15 starts for earnings of $2,975,500. Highlighting his on-track accomplishments were victories in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic Stakes, G2 Californian Stakes, and G3 Precisionist Stakes, Lexington Stakes, and Sham Stakes. He also finished second in the 2017 Breeders' Cup Classic.

The stallion is out of the winning Johannesburg mare Helena Bay, from the family of champions Blushing Groom and Agnes Digital.

Believe You Can, a 10-year-old Proud Citizen mare, is pregnant with her fifth foal. Her first was Believe in Royalty, a son of Tapit who has become a Grade 3-placed stakes winner. He was followed by another Tapit foal, the filly Birdy Num, who sold as a yearling for $1 million and is unplaced in two starts.

Looking to the future, Believe You Can has a yearling War Front colt who is cataloged in this year's Keeneland September Yearling Sale, and she delivered a filly by Uncle Mo on Jan. 22.

Believe You Can gained national prominence with her victory in the 2012 Kentucky Oaks as a homebred for Airdrie Stud owner Brereton Jones. Prior to her score at Churchill Downs, the filly notched a win in the G3 Tempted Stakes as a juvenile, then came back at three to win the listed Silverbulletday Stakes and G2 Fair Grounds Oaks prior to her signature victory. At four, Believe You Can won the Tiffany Lass Stakes and New Orleans Ladies Stakes, both at Fair Grounds.

Believe You Can is the highlight of the produce record for El Fasto, an 18-year-old El Prado mare who has spent her entire life under the Airdrie Stud banner as an unraced homebred.

El Fasto is the dam of nine winners from 10 foals to race. Believe You Can is her lone stakes winner, with other notable runners including Indian Eddie, a son of Indian Charlie who earned $117,618, and A Shin Nitro, a full-brother to Believe You Can who has earned over $155,000 in Japan.

El Fasto most recently delivered colt by Airdrie Stud roster member Creative Cause on Feb. 10.
