Gunning Breaks Her Maiden
Saturday, July 2, 2022
Three-year-old filly, Gunning, has broken her maiden in an impressive maiden special weight victory over 11 rivals at Churchill Downs on Saturday, July 2nd!
Bred and owned by Robert Clay's Grandview Equine and raised at Runnymede, Gunning made an impressive debut on June 4, finishing 2nd in another Churchill maiden special weight after being blocked in the upper stretch. Wheeling back today, the daughter of Gun Runner and Big Brown's stakes-winning daughter Puca rated off the early pace before making a five-wide move into the stretch and drawing off to win the 7f dash by 5 lengths over Please Be Kind, who is by Violence out of MG1 winner Include Me Out.
Ridden by Corey Lanerie and trained by Ken McPeek, Gunning looks to be an exciting filly for her connections. We consigned her to the 2020 Keeneland September yearling sale but she was an RNA at $70,000, a result that has turned out to be a very good thing for Grandview.

Congratulations to all Gunning's connections. (Churchill Downs photo via Twitter)
