Icarus Wins Again
Saturday, March 11, 2023
Icarus, the four-year-old gelding by Arrogate out of Light The Sky found himself in the winner's circle yet again after a close race on Saturday at Oaklawn. Ridden by jockey Francisco Arrieta, the grey gelding broke from the outside post in a field of eight for the one and one eighth mile trip on the dirt. Icarus fell to the back of the pack on the inside after the break, void of speed. It was not until the second turn that he really began to advance. Arrieta used his position in the back to bring Icarus around the outside of the pack, tapping on the breaks going into the final turn so he could swing wide and surpass his opponents. The pair then vamped up the speed and pulled ahead from between horses finishing in the lead by a half of a length. Talk about coming from behind! Icarus has had great success at Oaklawn this year. He finished first in a starter allowance at the end of February. This is the geldings fourth win in eleven starts. After winning this $104,000 allowance race, Icarus has now earned over $200,000! Exciting times for the connections for Light The Sky and her produce!
