Breed First, LLC, managed by Runnymede Farm, had an incredibly successful day at the Ocala Breeders Two Years Old In Training Spring Sale yesterday, April 27th. Consigned by Gene Recio, Hip # 682, the son of 2010 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner; Uncle Mo, went through the ring yesterday with a hammer price of $675,000. The two year old is out of Bodemeister mare Mezinka. The colt was consigned by Runnymede Farm in the 2022 Keeneland September sale where he did not meet his reserve at the fall of hammer. Breed First retained 25% of the colt and partnered with Gene Recio of Lynwood Stables who purchased the colt for $250,000. Gene believed in the colt as much as we did and agreed to break, train and consign him as a two year old. We can't wait to see what is in store for him as he moves into the next chapter of his life and begins his racing career.
The colt is half brother to three year old son of Justify, Harlocap, who until recently was on the Kentucky Derby trail. Harlocap was in training with Bob Baffert until February where he was moved to the stables of Steve Asmussen. Harlocap's most recent start was in the Arkansas Derby where he unfortunately finished ninth after a breaking from the gate and having a great start, but tired out and did not finish as we hoped. That has not slowed him down though. Harlocap put in a four furlong work this week in 49.40 breezing at Oaklawn Park. We hope to see him back to the races soon.
Congratulations to Keith Desormeaux, the trainer, who purchased the Uncle Mo colt on behalf of clients of his. We can only hope this family continues to produce strong runners. Mezinka most recently had a bay colt by Authentic, in March, and we hope he has as much success as his brothers do in the sales ring and on the track!
