Wilson Q impressed us all again on Sunday July 2nd, at Ellis Park! After winning his first start at Churchill in May, the two year old son of Constitution out of Speightstown mare, Margate Gardens was entered in the listed Bashford Manor Stakes by trainer Doug O’Neill. The bright red chestnut colt had jockey Reylu Gutierrez in the saddle and broke from the inside post for the six furlong trip on the dirt. The pair bumped a rival at the start but advanced quickly between horses to the four spot. Around the far turn, Wilson Q was stuck behind two horses before dropping back and swinging around his competitors on the outside at the top of the stretch. Nearing the mid stretch, the colt gained pace as the leader kicked away, and followed his foe into the finish just two and three fourth lengths behind in second place. It may not have been the win we were hoping for, but it was a great effort for the two year old colt born in late April. Fingers crossed the rest of his career is as successful as his first two starts! Congratulations to all of his connections!
