Loose Leaf wins 4-year-old debut at the Spa 8/13/2008
Loose Leaf opened a new chapter of his career on August 13th as he began his four-year-old season with a determined allowance victory at Saratoga. The Runnymede Farm-bred colt had not raced since November 2007 for trainer Ken McPeek, but he gutted out a nose victory while finishing the mile and an eighth dirt test in 1:48 3/5.
Last year, Loose Leaf won Saratoga’s Lemon Drop Kid Stakes at the same distance, yet cleared this year’s opener by two full seconds faster. His record now stands at 17-5-1-3 and $216,770.
This is a timely win for the family, as Loose Leaf has a half-sister by Menifee (Hip #2740) selling next month at Keeneland. Last year’s yearling out of his Carson City dam, Claire’s Smile, was the top-selling Stephen Got Even of the year at $145,000.
