Breeder's Grandview Equine have had great success with their 2020 Good Magic offspring. Of course, Mage came from their Good Magic x Puca breeding and finished the 2023 Kentucky Derby victoriously, but the other son of Good Magic that was foaled here on the farm, was out of Tapit mare, Glory. Though he does not have a Derby Win, Escape Artist has had an extremely successful record since his second career debut at Santa Anita in December of 2022.

After we consigned the bay at the Keeneland September Yearling sale in 2021 for $90,000 to John Davison, the son of Good Magic went on to be prepped and sold by Paul Sharp at the Fasig Tipton Midlantic Two Year Old in Training sale in 2022. Sold to now owners Eclipse Thoroughbreds for $185,000, Escape Artist went into training with Michael McCarthy, trainer of the 2021 Preakness Stakes winner, Rombauer, and the 2021 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner, Ce Ce.  With two attempts to win a maiden special weight and finishing second in both, Escape Artist broke his maiden by two and a quarter length in his third start, a one and one eighth mile maiden special weight on the turf at Santa Anita Park on April 9th. Taking control from the start, and pressure from foes in the far turn but never shying away, the bay was able to bring home a win. His next start was the black type Singletary Stakes in early May, the ridgling faired well, but missed the opportunity for a win by not kicking things up a gear in the deep stretch, finishing in an honorable third. Since then, Escape Artist continued to put in decent times on his workouts at his home base of Santa Anita before winning yet another race. This time a one-mile allowance optional claiming race on Sunday, June 11th. Breaking from the gate and stumbling for a few strides, Escape Artist took a forward position three wide before drawing alongside the pacesetter, clearing home ahead by four and a quarter lengths!
