Partnership

Runnymede’s record of longstanding and fruitful partnerships extends as far back as the 150-year history of the farm. For decades, Runnymede founder Colonel Ezekiel Clay and his neighbor, Colonel Catesby Woodford, bred and sold, in partnership, some of the most notable horses of their era.

Runnymede Chairman, Catesby W. Clay, continued the custom by joining with Howard B. Noonan and his family in the 1970s. Together, they bred significant runners such as Angle Light, who made history by defeating the great Secretariat, prior to his sweep of the Triple Crown. In the late 1980s, Catesby Clay and Runnymede found a business partner and lifelong friend in Peter Callahan. The Runnymede/Callahan partnership has bred many outstanding horses, including Japanese champion and $8-million earner Agnes Digital.

One of the foundation mares for Runnymede, Kazadancoa, was purchased from France in partnership with Mr. Valerio. She produced an exceptional line of horses, with progeny such as Palace Episode, Tejano Run, Laughing Lashes, Bizzy Caroline and, most recently, Lady Eli.

Some of Runnymede's greatest accomplishments have been achieved in partnership and we look forward to not only breeding and selling more outstanding horses, but also to racing several promising two-year olds with our partners.

We are proud to be joined most recently by new partners from different walks of life and from around the world, who share the same passion for the sport of racing as current CEO and Chairman Brutus Clay III, his entire family, and the Runnymede Farm team. Some partners' families have been involved with racing for centuries, while other partners are new to this great business. We consider it a privilege to share the excitement of the Thoroughbred lifestyle and, hopefully, attract more people to our sport.

We work with our partners in many ways, offering our expertise in every aspect of horse care and management. Our services include guidance on matings, full-care boarding and foaling, yearling sales preparation, and advice on buying and selling at auction. Seldom is greatness achieved through only one person's efforts. We salute our partners of the past, present and future and welcome the opportunity to discuss our many services.
