We are all absolutely overjoyed for our friends at Grandview Equine who bred this year’s 149th Kentucky Derby winner, Mage. The three-year-old colt by Good Magic out of Big Brown mare, Puca finished victoriously in the run for the roses on Saturday, May 6th at Churchill Downs. After breaking a step slowly from post eight, Mage avoided trouble between the large field of horses and shifted inward during the first furlong but settling toward the back of the pack in the two to four path around the first turn. Keeping a steady pace and waiting to make his move to navigate through the traffic as he does best, Mage tipped five wide in the far turn rallying by his rivals in the turn for home. Once he entered the lane, he smoothly and quickly made his way past foes, charging toward the leaders and held ground. Jockey Javier Castellano was in the saddle as Mage made his bid past Two Phil’s, finishing one length ahead. We are so grateful Grandview allowed us the opportunity to foal, raise and consign such an impressive colt! Congratulations to the entire Runnymede family and to all of this colt’s connections! It is truly a dream come true and an honor for all involved!
