We are all hoping for some “magic” speed on Saturday for the three-year-old son of Good Magic out of Big Brown mare, Puca. Mage is breaking from post position eight for the 149th Run for the Roses. Multiple graded stakes winning and hall of fame jockey Javier Castellano will be in the saddle for the one and one quarter-mile race. Castellano has a long working relationship with trainer Gustavo Delgado. Delgado noted, “Javier knows the horse and has the experience that Mage lacks”. Castellano was aboard for Mage’s fourth-place trip in the Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream in March. Mage is coming off three career starts but has proven to be tough competition, even to more well-seasoned competitors such as Forte, whom he lost to in the home stretch in the Florida Derby at the beginning of April. Since he arrived at Churchill Downs last week, Mage has handled the pressure, crowds, noises, and surfaces like a champion according to owners Commonwealth Racing. We hope he continues this attitude going into the big race. Post time for Race 12 is 6:57 pm. We are honored to be apart of his upbringing. As you know, Mage was foaled, raised and consigned by Runnymede Farm. Thanks to Kathy, Edgar and their teams for all of the hard work that they put into raising our foals and yearlings! It is definitely something to be proud of to have a Derby contender and we could not do it without them! Good luck to all of his connections this weekend!
