Today was a great day for a couple of Runnymede raised horses, starting from a win earlier in the day from Stolen Magic, the two year old colt by Good Magic out of Tapit mare, Glory. Stolen Magic was bred by Grandview Equine and was raised and sold by Runnymede in the 2022 Keeneland September Sale to Borealis Bloodstock for $37,000. The colt then went on to be consigned by Paul Sharp in the Fasig Tipton Midlantic Two Year Old in Training sale in May of this year. Here he was sold to current owners KEM Stables for $85,000. In today’s race at Aqueduct, a six and a half furlong maiden special weight, Stolen Magic broke from post two out of a field of six after two opponents scratched. Jose Lezcana was aboard for the colt’s third start. After breaking from the gate, Lezcana and Stolen Magic kept a good pace on the inside, keeping up with the leader easily. Saving ground on the turn and entering the stretch in third place, the bay moved inward and was asked for more by Lezcana, gaining the lead coming upon the furlong marker. Stolen Magic brought it home, finishing one and three fourth lengths ahead and is now standing with a record of 3-1-1-1 and earnings of $78,550. Congratulations to all of his connections!
The next winner we had today was Happy Helen, the three year old Arrogate filly out of Dehere mare, Beautician! Bred and owned by Callahan Equine, the chestnut filly had her second career win at Horseshoe Indianapolis in the third race on the card this afternoon, a one and one sixteenth mile allowance race on the dirt . Under training by the great Brendan Walsh, Happy Helen broke from the outside post, with six other fillies and mares to watch out for. Leaving the gate somewhat unhurriedly with jockey Declan Carroll on her back, the filly followed the leaders at the back of the pack in the backstretch, earning herself a lovely coating of mud after the rain this afternoon. It was not until late in the turn that Happy Helen kicked things into high gear and started to gain momentum on the inside. Angling herself into the lane and continuing to find her speed, the filly split the two leaders around the eight pole and drew clear to home! Happy Helen and Declan Carroll finished two and three fourth lengths ahead of her opponents. This is her second consecutive win, her first being a maiden special weight at Horseshoe in the beginning of October. In her first win, the filly also made us wait for her to make her move in the turn, but what excitement when she does! Congratulations to Callahan Equine on another win for the big chestnut filly! We love watching her take her time to pounce on the competition and pull out a win!
